چکیده

MT19937 is a kind of Mersenne Twister, which is a pseudo-random number generator. This study presents new designs for a MT19937 circuit suitable for custom computing machinery for highperformance scientific simulations. Our designs can generate multiple random numbers per cycle (multi-port design). The estimated throughput of a 52-port design was 262Gbps, which is 115 times higher than the software on a Pentium 4 (2.53GHz) processor. Multi-port designs were proven to be more cost-effective than using multiple single-port designs. The initialization circuit can be included without performance loss in exchange for a slight increase of logic scale. key words: custom circuit, simulation, random number, Mersenne Twister, FPGA

An FPGA Implementation of a Parallelized MT19937 Uniform Random Number Generator

Recent times have witnessed an increase in use of high-performance reconfigurable computing for accelerating large-scale simulations. A characteristic of such simulations, like infrared (IR) scene simulation, is the use of large quantities of uncorrelated random numbers. It is therefore of interest to have a fast uniform random number generator implemented in reconfigurable hardware. While ther...

Pseudo-random number generators for Monte Carlo simulations on ATI Graphics Processing Units

Basic uniform pseudo-random number generators are implemented on ATI Graphics Processing Units (GPU). The performance results of the realized generators (multiplicative linear congruential (GGL), XOR-shift (XOR128), RANECU, RANMAR, RANLUX and Mersenne Twister (MT19937)) on CPU and GPU are discussed. The obtained speed-up factor is hundreds of times in comparison with CPU. RANLUX generator is fo...

On parallel random number generation for accelerating simulations of communication systems

Powerful compute clusters and multi-core systems have become widely available in research and industry nowadays. This boost in utilizable computational power tempts people to run compute-intensive tasks on those clusters, either for speed or accuracy reasons. Especially Monte Carlo simulations with their inherent parallelism promise very high speedups. Nevertheless, the quality of Monte Carlo s...

Library of random number generators based on SSE command set

Pseudo random numbers, generated recursively by deterministic rules, represent one of important ingredients in algorithms for numerical simulations such as molecular dynamics and of Monte Carlo simulations, widely used in physics, chemistry, material science and cryptography [1]. It is a great challenge to design random number generators (RNGs) producing pseudo random numbers that behave as rea...

Hardware implementation of the elitist compact Genetic Algorithm using Cellular Automata pseudo-random number generator

In this paper the design and implementation of two versions of the compact Genetic Algorithm (cGA), with and without mutation and elitism, and a Cellular Automata-based pseudo-random number generator on a Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) are accomplished. The design is made using a Hardware Description Language, called VHDL. Accordingly, the obtained results show that it is viable to have...
